Quality

We have obtained a number of ISO-certificates to underline our quality. You can read about these on our website. We do want to mention one ISO certificate here in particular; the ISO 17100. This standard directly affects applicants, which means it is relevant to you.

In short, this ISO standard stands for optimum security with regard to the quality management system and the translation services. In order to obtain this standard, we needed to meet a series of requirements relating to translators, resources, quality care, management systems, contractual frameworks, project management, and services.

Homework

The ISO 17100 standard requires us to have a resume of all our translators; we need to be able to show these during quality inspections. Every resume must show that the translator:

• a) is in possession of a recognised translation degree from an institution of higher education, or;
• b) is in possession of a recognised degree in any other field from an institution of higher education, and has two years of full-time professional translation experience, or;
• c) has five years of full-time professional translation experience.

So take a look at your resume and make sure that the above clearly comes to the fore.

The ISO 17100 standard also requires us to have a small translation test for all translators for each language combination they want to work with. Proofreaders may do a bit of editing instead.
