Romanian (limba română or româna) is spoken by about 25 million people in Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, and Vojvodina (a region in northern Serbia). Over 17 million people speak Romanian in Romania itself. Unlike the Slavic languages of the surrounding Balkan countries, Romanian is a Romance language.
